Two youngsters had a miraculous escape when a car they were travelling in plunged into a roadside pond while trying to avoid a wild boar that suddenly crossed the road. The accident occurred at Kottakulam, Chittilanchery, around 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday. The youngsters were travelling from Alathur when the wild boar darted across their path. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the animal, lost control of the car and crashed into the pond. The vehicle was submerged.

The two passengers broke the car window and swam to safety. As the area was deserted at the time, the accident initially went unnoticed. Local residents later reached the spot and launched rescue efforts. A crane was brought in and the car was retrieved after several hours. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.

Residents said wild boars were increasingly being found in the Kottakulam area at night. They urged motorists to exercise caution while travelling through the area during nighttime.
