Burglars decamped with 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery, 800 grams of silver objects, and ₹20,000 in cash from the house of Public Distribution System (PDS) staff at Natrampalli village near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on Sunday.
Police said that the victim, S. Vijayakumar, 46, is working as a salesman at a fair price outlet in the village. He is a native of Ramanaickanpettai village near Vaniyambadi town. Initial inquiry revealed that Vijayakumar had been living with his family in a rented house in the village for the past few years, as the house is closer to his workplace. Along with his family, he went to his native village near Vaniyambadi to celebrate the Pongal festival with his relatives and parents.
When the family returned, they found the cupboards and the almirah broken. Valuables, including cash, gold jewellery and silver objects, were missing. Immediately, he alerted the Natrampalli police, who rushed to the shop with forensic experts. Fingerprints were taken. Police have taken footage along the route. Superintendent of Police V. Shyamala Devi has formed four special teams to nab the culprits. A case has been registered and further probe is under way.
