The Thrikkakara municipality aims to transform itself into a ‘waste-free’ local body.

Presenting the Budget, municipal vice-chairperson Shereena Shukoor proposed awareness programmes on scientific waste management. The Budget envisages a revenue of ₹19,64,74,5225 and an expenditure of ₹17,64,53,4500.

The Budget allocates funds for youth welfare and the development of new playgrounds. It also proposes smart classrooms and a modern complex housing the municipal bus stand, a shopping complex, and offices. In addition, it plans to upgrade basic infrastructure, including roads and bridges.

The civic body will set aside ₹2 crore for establishing a centralised waste management plant. A sum of ₹25 lakh has been earmarked for installing bins at various locations. The Budget has also allocated ₹1 crore for modern waste management initiatives in association with Bharat Petroleum Limited-Kochi Refinery (BPCL-KR).

An allocation of ₹10 crore has been made for a housing project for the landless and for the construction of the Vanachira bridge. Palliative care units and allied health projects have been earmarked ₹20 lakh.

An amount of ₹25 lakh has been set apart for renovating existing public toilets under the ‘Take a Break’ scheme and for setting up new units. The Budget has earmarked ₹1 crore each for various drinking water projects and for establishing the Thrikkakara Public Health Centre. The Animal Birth Control programme will receive ₹25 lakh.
