Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Friday accused the previous BRS government of misleading people with claims of providing uninterrupted 24-hour free electricity and asserted that the Congress government was committed to ensuring reliable power supply under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Speaking to reporters at Indira Bhavan in Nalgonda, the Minister said power demand in Telangana had risen to nearly 20,000 MW due to drought conditions and increased dependence on borewells for agriculture. He alleged that while people were facing hardships because of the drought, leaders of the BRS and BJP were trying to derive political mileage from the situation.

Mr. Reddy said the Congress government had completed the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant and was utilising all available resources, including support from Coal India, to strengthen power generation and ensure uninterrupted supply in the future.

Targeting BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, the Minister questioned how he had allegedly acquired multiple high-value properties after working in the United States for a few years. He urged BRS leaders to come closer to the people instead of remaining confined to a “five-star hotel and farmhouse culture.”

The Minister said the Revanth Reddy government was implementing welfare programmes like issuance of ration cards, fine rice distribution and Indiramma housing for eligible beneficiaries. He revealed that he had requested the Chief Minister to sanction an additional 5,000 Indiramma houses for Nalgonda constituency.

Expressing confidence about the party’s electoral prospects, Mr. Reddy said Congress was certain to register a convincing victory in the upcoming Graduate MLC elections and any future by-election in Khairatabad. He maintained that people would not believe the “false propaganda” of the BRS and BJP and that the Congress would return to power in the state.
