Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has shifted the booking process for Suryanelli-Kolukkumala off-road safari to a fully digital system.
The move is aimed at eliminating issues related to overcharging by Multi-Utility Vehicle (MUV) drivers.
“Tourists can now book safari tickets through the website https://kolukkumalaijeepsafari.com. The rate is fixed at ₹3,100 for six persons. Visitors can book tickets up to three days in advance and select their preferred vehicles,” said Idukki DTPC secretary Jitheesh Jose.
A total of 280 MUVs have been issued permits for the safari, with operating hours fixed from 4.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. “Tourists can show the booking details at the booking counter in Suryanelli. We hope the online system will make it easier for them to book their seats without any hurdles,” said the official.
Kolukkumala off-road safari is one of the main tourist attractions in the district, said Mr. Jose. A sprawling tea estate at Kolukkumala, situated at an elevation of approximately 7,900 feet, serves as a primary highlight of the off-road safari.
Mr. Jose said that in last December alone, the DTPC facilitated 8,537 trips to Kolukkumala, with nearly 50,000 tourists enjoying the experience.
