Blistering heat continues to scorch large parts of the State as temperatures went as high as 40°C twice in less than a week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heat alert for the State and the agency warned that sizzling temperatures will continue until rain brings some relief.

According to a bulletin issued by the IMD on Tuesday, maximum temperatures are likely to be around 40°C at isolated places in Palakkad, 38°C in Kollam, 37°C in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, and 36°C in Thiruvananthapuram district (2 to 3°C above normal) until April 18. As a result, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over most parts of the State except in hilly areas till April 18.
