BJP to agitate against GHMC delimitation exercise

The BJP will launch a ‘people’s agitation’ against what it termed an imperfect final list of population and jurisdictions of the newly created divisions of GHMC following the merger of 27 local bodies on the city outskirts, warned former MLA and party convenor of the delimitation monitoring committee, NVSS Prabhakar, on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after meeting GHMC Commissioner R.V. Kannan, to whom the party had submitted a memorandum highlighting several concerns regarding the final list of 300 divisions, the BJP leader accused GHMC officials of lacking clarity even after being alerted to ‘structural flaws’—such as a single division falling under two different Assembly constituencies spanning across two separate revenue districts.

He questioned the basic criterion for increasing the divisions – whether it was population, geographical area, or the number of voters – claiming that there was no proper explanation for the same. The new map, he alleged, appeared politically aligned with the ruling party and “could have been drafted by a private agency sitting in Gandhi Bhavan (Congress HQ) and Darussalam (MIM HQ),” remarked the ex-MLA.

Mr. Prabhakar further claimed that the civic body had failed to consider public opinion even after receiving “10,000 objections and suggestions.” Changes were made only to names in some places, while key issues such as geographical integrity and population balance remain unaddressed, he charged.

Former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, general secretary N. Gautam Rao, and others were present.

Party chief meets Nadda

Meanwhile, State president N. Ramchander Rao met national president J.P. Nadda in New Delhi on Tuesday night to brief him about the political situation, the ‘good results’ obtained in the recent local body polls, and how the party is emerging as an alternative in Telangana.

Mr. Nadda appreciated the efforts of the leaders and cadre, emphasising the need to reach out to the people, identify public issues, and continuously exert pressure on the government to resolve them. He further stated that internal conflicts within the BRS party have eroded public trust, and due to the failures of the Congress party, people in the State are increasingly looking toward the BJP.
