The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday suspended three workers from the primary membership of the party for allegedly working to defeat its candidates in three wards of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation in the recently held local body elections. BJP district president Karamana Jayan issued a press release on Thursday announcing their suspension.

The suspended members are Karshaka Morcha State committee member V.P. Anand from the Kowdiar ward, Vattiyurkavu constituency media convenor Sunil Kumar from the Kanjirampara ward, and Nemom constituency secretary Rajkumar from the Mudavanmugal ward. The BJP had lost in two of these wards, while managing to win in one.

Congress leader K.S. Sabarinadhan won from Kowdiar, while Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader V. Gopakumar won from the Mudavanmugal ward. Sumi Balu of the BJP won from Kanjirampara.
