The Opposition BJP in Karnataka has petitioned State DG & IGP against AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of making a provocative speech against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during an election rally in Assam, and seeking his arrest.

A delegation of BJP MLAs and leaders on Tuesday submitted the petition to the DG & IGP in this regard.

The delegation alleged the statement by Mr. Kharge “incited Muslims”. “As the president of a national party, Mr. Kharge holds a highly responsible position and is seen as someone who consistently engages with minority communities. Such an irresponsible and provocative statement made by him has endangered the lives of lakhs of BJP and RSS members across the country,” the delegation alleged.

“His provocative speech in Assam is effectively an attack on the sangh parivar nationwide. The potential nationwide consequences of such remarks cannot be ruled out. His statement may encourage misguided individuals to attack our workers,” the delegation said.

It demanded immediate arrest of Mr. Kharge.
