BJP State unit president B.Y. Vijayendra has expressed doubts about the decision of government of Karnataka to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of C.J. Roy, founder and chairman of Confident Group.

Speaking to the media in Shivamogga on February 1, Mr. Vijayendra stated that the State Government announced the SIT probe into the death in a hurry, even before the family members had conducted the final rites. “The constitution of an SIT in such a hurry has created suspicion about the intent of the government. I am noticing pain and confusion on Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar’s face,” he remarked.

Elaborating on his argument, Mr. Vijayendra said that the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in the State forms an SIT whenever it wants to safeguard its supporters, and target opposition party leaders. “The State Government formed an SIT when there were allegations of mismanagement of funds at the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation. Similarly, the government formed SITs to protect its supporters in other cases,” he said.

Further, he pointed out that none of the family members had filed a complaint. The government had set up the SIT based on a complaint by a person named John. “These developments give rise to suspicion about the handling of the case,” he added.
