Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday (May 3, 2026) criticised the Omar Abdullah government for being “a mute spectator” as a seminary-cum-school was closed and Urdu was dropped from qualification for revenue department jobs. These actions were “a design to attack the identity and culture of the region”, she said.
“We recently saw the closure of the educational institute of Siraj-ul-Uloom (in south Kashmir’s Shopian), which provided up-to-the-mark education to poor children and helped locals to become doctors and engineers. However, the J&K government remained silent over it,” said Ms. Mufti, who addressed a rally in Ganderbal district.
