The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the police in West Bengal, where the Trinamool Congress is in power, of using excessive force against protesters during demonstrations over atrocities against the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said protests in other parts of the country were held peacefully, but in West Bengal, the police baton charged demonstrators. He alleged that several protesters were injured during the police action, with some reportedly left bleeding and others passed out.
The BJP leader sought to link the issue to what he described as a broader pattern of “appeasement politics” by the TMC, alleging that the State government prioritised certain vote banks over the rights of Hindu citizens.
Referring to past incidents in West Bengal, including violence in Murshidabad earlier this year, he raised the question of whether the State government was failing to ensure security for Hindus. He demanded that the right to peaceful protest be protected.
