The heavy rain that battered Bengaluru on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) evening claimed nine lives in three separate incidents.

Seven persons were killed and seven others were injured after a portion of the compound wall of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital collapsed during heavy rain in the city’s Shivajinagar area on Wednesday. Thousands of commuters were stranded on roads, stuck in traffic, or struggling to find a way back home during peak hours.

Just a few minutes of very heavy rain left most arterial roads in the city flooded. On many roads, there was knee-deep water that caused not only slow-moving traffic, but also caused several vehicles to break down, further adding to the chaos.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) observation data, the Bengaluru city station recorded 111 mm rain till 8.30 p.m. while the theKempegowda International Airport (KIA) recorded trace rainfall, and the HAL airport received 24.7 mm till 5.30 p.m.
