The two day BRICS Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) 2026 meet began on Tuesday in Bengaluru.

India, as Chair of BRICS for 2026, is hosting HOSA and heads and senior representatives of the space agencies of the 11 BRICS member countries — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates — are attending the meeting.

The theme is ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’.

ISRO said that the theme reflects India’s people-centric, humanity-first approach articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BRICS Summit 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

ISRO added that the meeting will serve as an important platform for dialogue and cooperation among BRICS nations on key issues shaping the future of the global space sector.

“Space sustainability will be a major focus area, with member agencies expected to exchange views on sustainable space operations and domestic governance frameworks to support debris-free space missions. Discussions will focus on policy approaches, regulatory frameworks, and best practices to ensure the long-term sustainability of space activities,” ISRO stated.

During the meeting, member agencies will deliberate on proposed amendments to the BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation Agreement to include new members and discuss the Terms of Reference for the proposed BRICS Space Council.

Indian space-tech companies will have a platform at the event, with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre facilitating presentations that offer delegates insights into the breadth of capabilities being developed across launch services, satellite technologies, geospatial intelligence, and downstream applications.

To provide first-hand exposure to India’s growing space ecosystem, an industry visit to the facilities of private space enterprises has also been arranged, according to ISRO.

Minister of State in the Department of Space Jitendra Singh will take part in the valedictory function of this event and interact with the heads of BRICS space agencies.
