Bengaluru couple killed in road accident

A couple on their way to attend a wedding were killed after a speeding truck knocked down their motorcycle in Yeshwantpur Traffic Police limits on Thursday (June 11) afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Shahabaz, 28, and Shabreen Taj, 25, residents of Chikkabasthi, Ullal. The couple had been married for five years and were running a provision store in the locality.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 12.45 p.m. when the couple was travelling to Mariyannapalya. The two-wheeler was coming from Hebbal Junction and reportedly took a left turn towards the ring road stretch to access the Outer Ring Road leading towards the Peenya Industrial Area.

At the same time, a cylinder truck was moving from Peenya towards the city, and a canter vehicle was also travelling on the same stretch. In the ensuing sequence of events, the canter allegedly hit the bike and ran over the riders. Both victims sustained severe injuries and were declared dead on the spot. The bodies were shifted for a postmortem examination.

The Yeshwantpur Traffic Police have taken the driver into custody are questioning him. A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
