Bengaluru’s civic agencies under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) conducted two key public initiatives on Sunday, including comprehensive health screenings for sanitation workers and a large-scale footpath audit walk in Jayanagar.

The Bengaluru Central City Corporation organised health check-ups for Pourakarmikas, auto tipper drivers, and loaders across 73 locations. The drive, launched on Sunday morning, was conducted at 45 Namma Clinics and 28 Urban Primary Health Centres. Additional Commissioner (Development) Daljit Kumar said protecting the wellbeing of those who keep the city clean is the corporation’s foremost responsibility. All sanitation workers will undergo detailed medical examinations as part of the initiative.

In South Bengaluru, the third edition of the Jayanagar Footpath Walk, organised by Project Walkaluru, saw active participation from more than 40 citizens, officials, and civic staff. South Zone Commissioner Ramesh K.N., who joined the walk, identified building materials dumped at 10 locations along pedestrian pathways. He instructed officials to issue notices to building owners and ensure immediate clearance of all obstructions.

The 5-km walk covered key stretches, including Aurobindo Road, 10th Main, Marenahalli Main Road, and areas around Jayanagar Shopping Complex and Shalini Ground. Participants ranged from eight to 70 years of age.

During the two-hour walk, citizens documented 22 footpath obstructions, three garbage spots, five damaged slabs, two locations blocked by parked cars, ten instances of construction material encroachment, and two shop extensions. Officials said all major obstacles, especially construction debris, will be cleared promptly to ensure safer pedestrian movement.
