Belagavi will have two solid waste management facilities as the expanse of the city is larger than other towns, according to Satish Jarkiholi, Public Works Department Minister of Karnataka. He told officials to start work on these units as soon as possible, during the quarterly progress review meeting of various departments in the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi on November 29.

The Minister told officials to complete all works taken up under MP and MLA local areas development grant schemes. The district in-charge minister also told officials to properly maintain all relevant documents for the process. He said that he had directed the Deputy Commissioner and zilla panchayat CEO to monitor a few departments, and submit reports to the legislators concerned.

“This was decided in the last meeting. I want these officials to review each programme in detail. This will facilitate the speedy completion of pending work in various departments,” he said.

Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi demanded that the grants received under the MLAs and MPs’ Area Development Funds be used properly and compliance reports be sent promptly.

He clarified that the district administration was complying with the orders of the Supreme Court about prohibiting loud noise during public gatherings and festivals using loudspeakers. He congratulated officers and staff who had completed the social and educational survey conducted by the backward classes commission on time.

Raju Kage, MLA and Chairperson of the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, urged the State Government, in association with the Union Government, to take up development of fertile land damaged by over-irrigation in some parts of the district. He told officials to ensure proper distribution of drip irrigation subsidy and timely completion of multi-village drinking water programmes. Mr. Kage said that several MLAs had sought bus operations in rural areas, and that their demands will be addressed in phases. “We are procuring 300 new buses. They will start operating in rural areas soon,” he said.

Mahantesh Kaujalagi, MLA, sought swift action to fill posts of anganwadi assistants by the Women and Child Welfare Department. He sought action against contractors who had not carried out work related to irrigation projects on time.

Mr. Kadadi told officials to speed up work on the ESI hospital in Belagavi, and warned that laxity could lead to lapse of funds. He urged the State Government to open procurement centres for black gram, green gram and soya. He urged the government to fill vacancies in urban water supply departments

Asif (Raju) Sait told officials to send a proposal to the government of Karnataka to purchase another MRI machine for the super speciality hospital in Belagavi.

MLA Dhuryodhan Aihole told officials not to cancel ration cards of eligible beneficiaries. He sought appointment of specialist doctors in the government hospital in Raibag.

MLA Ganesh Hukkeri suggested that fencing farm ponds could reduce children drowning. Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde said that an awareness campaign was launched to fence farm ponds and install safety equipment in bore wells.

MLC Nagaraj Yadav urged officials to set up digital libraries in all government libraries.
