The art installation set up using collected waste materials at Shanghumughom Beach beach, highlighting the impact of human neglect on coastal spaces.

Demonstrating a strong model of youth-led civic action, Marian College of Architecture and Planning, Marian Edu City, Kazhakuttam, Thiruvananthapuram, in association with the ISOLA (Indian Society of Landscape Architects) Kerala Chapter, organised a ‘M-YUVA (M-Youth) ‘Clean Beach Drive’ at Shanghumughom Beach the other day.

The programme witnessed the active participation of around 200 students and members of the public. Along with systematic beach clean-up activities, an awareness-driven art installation was created using collected waste materials from the beach, highlighting the impact of human neglect on coastal spaces. The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Dr. A. R. John, Manager, Marian Edu City (MCAP). Rev. Fr. Abin Stanley, Bursar, MCAP, delivered the welcome address. ISOLA Kerala chapter chairperson Prof. Ganga Krishnan also spoke.

The art installation led by noted artist Shanoj P. C. reflected the reality of waste left behind on beaches. A collective environmental pledge was taken by students on the occasion. A talk session was also organised at Marian College of Architecture and Planning featuring Rajalakshmi Iyer, a leading landscape architect from Singapore. The programme was attended by Principal Prof. Suja Kartha, Programme Head Architect Sheikh Yaseen, and Manoj Mohanan, Secretary, ISOLA Kerala chapter.
