Awareness workshop on ‘bio-methanation projects’

The growing importance of bioenergy and the role of research institutions in supporting its development was highlighted during a workshop on ‘Capacity building and awareness generation workshop on organic bio-methanation projects’ held at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here on Friday.

The objective of the workshop was to equip finance professionals and other stakeholders with the necessary knowledge, skills and to create awareness, build capacity, for the promotion of CBG ecosystem by bringing together key stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and government officials on a common platform.

IICT chief scientist A. Gangagni Rao explained how the biogas sector has grown over the years in India, highlighted its rising importance in waste management and clean fuel production, and shared valuable lessons from his own experience working with biogas and CBG systems.

About 212 delegates including representatives from the industry and financial institutions such as SIDBI, UCO Bank, Central Bank of India, Punjab & Sind Bank, Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank and others, took part in the programme. TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) associate director Nagendra Kumar, IICT director D. Srinivasa Reddy, MNRE (Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) scientist Bikash Upadhyay, UNIDO’s (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) Nikhil Khot and others also spoke, said a press release.
