The Tirupati police on Tuesday (December 09, 2025) registered a case against an auto driver for alleged sexual assault on a 17-year-old college student under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The incident occurred on December 03 under Alipiri police limits, but was reported to the police on Tuesday. The minor girl, who is a polytechnic student staying at a private hostel, had booked an auto rickshaw through a ride hailing app. The driver identified as Sai Kumar dropped her at the designated destination, but continued to contact her regularly, offering financial assistance.

After a series of conversations, he invited her to a room in the garb of providing the promised financial aid, where her reportedly sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

After dilly-dallying over the consequences, the girl sought the help of a friend, who suggested her to reach out to the police. The Alipiri police registered a case under Cr.No.448/2025 under POCSO Act and other allied sections.

After forming special teams and interrogating the accomplices and relatives of the accused, the police launched a manhunt to nab the accused, who is currently on the run.
