Calling on universities to nurture scientific temper, critical thinking and ethical leadership, Attorney General of India, R. Venkataramani, said institutions of higher learning must remain centres for the continuous pursuit of truth, knowledge and justice.
Addressing the 14th convocation of Vignan University at Vadlamudi in Chebrolu mandal on Saturday, he described graduation as the beginning of a new phase of life and urged students to use their knowledge for the benefit of society. He stressed that knowledge is not merely the accumulation of information but a lifelong search for truth, guided by inquiry, scientific outlook and constitutional values. He also cautioned the graduates against misinformation in the digital era and urged them to develop the ability to critically analyse information.
The university conferred degrees on 2,599 students and presented 63 gold medals recognising academic excellence and leadership. Honorary doctorates were awarded to Rajeev Nannapaneni, Mahesh Kolli, and music director Mani Sharma for their contributions in industry, clean energy and music.
Vignan Group chairman Lavu Rathaiah highlighted the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and urged students to master it responsibly. Meanwhile, Vice-Chairman Lavu Srikrishnadevarayalu encouraged the graduates to become change-makers, while Chancellor Pavuluri Subba Rao urged them to become job creators rather than job seekers.
The ceremony concluded with jubilant celebrations as graduates, dressed in traditional convocation attire, marked the milestone with photographs, cheers, and a renewed commitment to contributing to the nation’s progress.
