Attempts to dilute the glory of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ for political appeasement can never succeed, BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan said on Sunday (August 23, 2026).

“Vande Mataram is not merely a song, it is an emotion, a symbol of India’s freedom struggle and an eternal expression of our national pride,” Ms. Srinivasan said.

The BJP stands firmly committed to restoring the honour and complete spirit of Vande Mataram, which inspired generations of Indians in the struggle for freedom, she said.

The nation will always remember the sacrifice, courage and spirit embodied in those immortal words, Ms. Srinivasan said in a social media post.

Her comments were made a day after her BJP party led by its national leadership adopted resolution regarding the “honour and protection of the historical legacy of Vande Mataram.”
