Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar has issued orders suspending an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a police constable in connection with the recent assault on an ex-serviceman in Dharwad.

The names of the suspended policemen have been given as Vidyanand Subedar, who is the Assistant Sub-Inspector, and Rachappa Kanabur, police constable.

On September 28, the assault took place at the Sainik Mess near Saptapur Bavi in Dharwad, run by ex-serviceman Ramappa Nippani.

It was said that the altercation and subsequent assault had taken place reportedly after the police objected to the food joint being kept open even after the stipulated time of closure.

Ramappa’s wife Geeta had complained to the police that the two police personnel suddenly assaulted her husband and others when they were having food after winding up the day’s business.

The police not only beat her husband but also used foul language against them, she complained.

The Police Commissioner subsequently visited the spot and heard the grievance of the ex-serviceman’s wife.
