A gang of around six armed dacoits struck a house in Bhagathnagar, Karimnagar district, shortly after midnight on Tuesday (July 22, 2026), assaulted two people at knife point and fled with 66 tola of gold, 10 tola of silver ornaments and ₹21 lakh in cash.

The assailants allegedly attacked an elderly man Ajmath Ali and his wife with the butt of a dummy gun, gagged them with tape and tied their hands and legs.

They allegedly threatened others at the house with knives before fleeing with the booty on two motorcycles. The elderly couple suffered minor injuries.

The dacoits reportedly gained entry into the house of Mr. Ali when he stepped out to switch off a light in the corridor around 12.30 a.m. They locked the door from outside before fleeing. Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam inspected the scene of crime on Wednesday morning. Multiple police teams are working to trace the culprits with the help of CCTV footage.

The incident comes less than 80 days after an armed robbery at a PMJ Jewellers showroom in Karimnagar, allegedly involving a Bihar-based gang. The alleged mastermind of the gang and other accused in the sensational armed robbery case have already been arrested.
