Minister for Archives Kadannappally Ramachandran receives handwritten manuscripts of satirist Veloor Krishnankutty from his children, Vinod and Kalavinodini, on Wednesday.

The Archives department has taken up the conservation of important documents of satirist Veloor Krishnankutty.

Veloor, who penned over 150 works, died in 2023. Following this, his son, Vinod L.K., appealed to the department to conserve Veloor’s handwritten manuscripts. The department’s assistant archivist in Ernakulam Vijith P. then visited their house and perused the records, including more than 2,000 papers, study notes on various subjects, and drafts of various works.

Mr. Vinod wished for all his father’s records to be conserved and their digital copies to be handed over to the Archives department.

Under the community archives initiative of the department, historical records in the possession of individuals or private or social institutions, when handed over voluntarily, are taken over by the department and conserved. Else, these are scientifically conserved and returned to the owners.

The department decided to take over 20 of Veloor’s most significant handwritten manuscripts, conserve and return them.

On Wednesday, Minister for Archives Kadannappally Ramachandran received these manuscripts from Veloor’s children. Mr. Vinod, his sister, Kalavinodini, and other kin and Archives Director Parvathy S. were present on the occasion.
