The annual Tirupati Tirumala umbrella procession, organised by the Hindu Dharmartha Samithi Trust, began at the Chenna Kesava Perumal Temple in Chennai on Monday. The procession that would reach Tirupati on September 27 after passing areas including NSC Bose Road, Govindappa Naicken Street, Walltax Road and Choolai High Road, was flagged off by Sri Vidyadeesh Theertharu Swamiji of the Udupi Palimar Math, in the presence of R.R. Gopaljee, trustee, Hindu Dharmartha Samithi. The 11 umbrellas that play an important role in the annual Brahmotsavam at Tirupati are made of white silk, a press release said.
