Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu has called for major legislative reforms including a no work no pay policy for legislators and the introduction of a Right to Recall. Speaking at the 77th Republic Day celebrations in the State Assembly premises on Monday, he emphasised that legislatures are the heartbeat of democracy and must reflect the aspirations of the people.

The Speaker proposed that legislatures should meet for a minimum of 60 sitting days annually to ensure meaningful debates and effective law making. He urged elected representatives to uphold the dignity of the House and work toward the development of Amaravati and the Polavaram project. He also reminded government employees to stay committed to the Constitution while delivering welfare schemes.

Legislative Council Chairman Koyye Moshenu Raju described the Indian Constitution as the supreme text that guarantees freedom and equality. He credited Dr B.R. Ambedkar for his visionary role in drafting the document and urged citizens to exercise their constitutional rights to maintain social harmony.
