The Andhra Pradesh Right to Information (RTI) Commission has earned national recognition for its performance in disposing of cases, with nearly 95% of hearings now conducted online, State Chief Information Commissioner Vajja Srinivasa Rao said on Monday (October 12, 2026).

Speaking at the RTI Act Foundation Day celebrations at the Commission’s office, he said the Commission had disposed of 7,034 cases between January and September 2026, compared with 3,252 cases in 2024 and 3,326 in 2025. The present commissioners had collectively disposed of 10,000 cases, he added.

The Commission received 6,635 cases in 2024, 6,423 in 2025 and 4,894 up to September 2026. More than 8,000 cases were expected to be registered by the end of this year.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao said the Commission aimed to clear all pending cases filed between 2013 and 2023 by the end of November. Two-member benches and full benches comprising three members would be constituted as required to expedite disposal.

The Commission had enabled citizens to file applications through mobile phones and attend hearings online from village-level locations, saving travel expenses and inconvenience. The Supreme Court had appreciated the online hearing system and recommended its adoption by other States, he said.

The Commission had inspected 263 government offices and identified deficiencies in 162, issuing notices to information officers. Regular training programmes for Public Information Officers and Assistant Public Information Officers were also being conducted.

Proposals had been submitted to appoint two dedicated RTI officials in each district. The Commission had blacklisted nine persons for allegedly misusing the law for personal interests, he said.

Stressing transparency, Mr. Srinivasa Rao urged every government office to implement Section 4(1)(b) of the RTI Act.

RTI Commissioners, including Chavali Sunil and Rehana Begum, Commission Secretary Ch. Padmavathi Devi and other officials attended the programme.
