Andhra Pradesh has won the Best State Award under the ‘Mera Resham – Mera Abhiman’ programme initiated by the Central Silk Board, Government of India, for effectively creating awareness and implementing development programmes for silk farmers and reelers.
A statement released to this effect attributed the achievement to guidance given by the Special Chief Secretary, B. Rajasekhar, and Director of Horticulture and Sericulture K. Srinivasulu.
The award was presented during the 76th Central Silk Board Foundation Day celebrations held in Bengaluru on September 20, 2025, by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, Padmini Singla, Member-Secretary of Central Silk Board Shivakumar, and Member of Parliament from Anantapur and Member of Central Silk Board Ambika Lakshminarayana.
The State government, in coordination with the Central Silk Board scientists and district-level sericulture officials, had organised awareness activities in Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Annamayya, Anantapur, Prakasam and Kakinada districts, which in turn contributed to increased cocoon production by farmers and motivated new farmers to take up mulberry cultivation.
“The department won the Best Tableau Award during Independence Day celebrations in 2025. Now receiving the Best State Award by the Central Government is indeed a proud moment,” said Mr. Srinivasulu.
