The police investigating the August 10 murder of K. Amuthan (19) of Kallakurichi, a third-year student of a private engineering college at Othakalmandapam near Coimbatore, arrested a student of the same institution on Monday. The police said that R. Monishan (21), a final year student of the engineering college, was arrested for alleged involvement in the crime. With this, the number of persons held so far in the case increased to 15.
According to the police, Monishan of Thiruppalai in Madurai district, was part of the group of students, who assaulted Amuthan over previous enmity at a ground close to their campus around 8.30 a.m. on August 10. The police added that they were investigating suspected involvement of a few more persons in the murder.
