The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam’s general council and executive committee will meet in Thanjavur on January 5.

The meeting will be chaired by C. Gopal, former MLA and Member of Parliament, according to a statement issued by the party general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran,

The AMMK, which was a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the time of the 2024 Lok Sabha election, had later distanced itself from the national party, which, in April, announced the revival of ties with the AIADMK. Mr Dhinakaran has been saying that his party cannot be part of a formation that declared the AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the candidate for the post of Chief Minister. However, after his party’s exit, Mr Dhinakaran met the former State president of the BJP K. Annamalai on a few occasions and termed the interactions as “courtesy calls.” It is expected that he may use the general council as an occasion to drop hints about the prospective partner for the Assembly election.
