The Kochi City police claimed to have expanded their search to other States to nab the prime accused in the alleged assault on two young women at Kaloor on Tuesday (June 2, 2026)

District Police Chief (Kochi City) Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar said on Thursday (June 4, 2026)that Ali Akbar, the prime accused in the alleged assault on two young women at Kaloor, would be arrested soon. Special teams have been deployed to nab him. The alleged assault took place around 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday on Chakkalapadam Road at Kaloor.

He said DJ parties held in the city would be under strict police surveillance as part of ‘Operation Toofan: The Narco Hunt’, the State-wide drive aimed at eliminating drug menace. The organisers have to comply with instructions issued by the police. Such events must conclude by 11 p.m., he said.

He added that surveillance had been stepped up near schools and colleges as those involved in the sale of drugs targeted students. On whether searches would be carried out in caravans parked at film shooting locations, he said such steps would be taken if there were specific leads.
