Air India CEO apologises to Congress MP

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson on Monday (December 15, 2025) apologised to Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP K.C. Venugopal after a privilege motion was moved against him in connection with a flight the latter took in August that encountered turbulence, a radar malfunction, diversion, and an aborted landing due to debris on the runway.

The CEO was summoned to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s office on Monday (December 15, 2025).

The incident involves an Air India flight Mr. Venugopal took on August 11 from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi, which had to divert to Chennai after the aircraft encountered turbulence and a malfunctioning radar, but had to abort landing. The Congress leader took to social media platform X to recount his experience, and wrote that the pilot had informed the passengers that the aborted landing was due to an aircraft on the runway. Countering him, the airline responded saying the incident was due to debris on the runway reported by an earlier aircraft.

A privilege motion served in Parliament is a formal complaint raised by an MP against another member, Minister, or outsider for breaching the collective rights, immunities, or the dignity of the House or its members.
