The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, flew an operational formation sortie on the MiG-29UPG fighter aircraft from a forward airbase on Thursday (March 12, 2026), underlining the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) focus on maintaining high operational standards and combat readiness.

The IAF said the formation was led by Flight Lieutenant Parvinder Singh. Prior to recovery, the formation executed a smart peel-off manoeuvre over the runway, demonstrating precision flying and the high level of operational training maintained by the squadron.

Air Warriors at the base maintained a high state of operational readiness during the visit and actively participated in flying-related activities, it added.

During the visit, the CAS was briefed by the Commanding Officer on the squadron’s operational role, the enhanced capabilities of the MiG-29UPG platform and the unit’s distinguished legacy. The squadron is set to complete 63 years since its induction in 1963, reflecting a long history of service in safeguarding the nation’s skies.

The CAS also interacted with aircrew, technicians and ground personnel, acknowledging the crucial role played by technical and support staff in sustaining the operational availability of combat platforms.

He also met veterans from nearby areas and appreciated their continued association with the Air Force community and their contribution to preserving its traditions and ethos.
