Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) and advanced nuclear systems play a critical role in achieving long-term energy security and sustainable development, said B. Venkatraman, Homi Sethna Chair, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), and Former Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam.

He was speaking as a chief guest at a programme organised by the VIT-A.P. University, in association with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), to mark the National Technology Day-2026 on the university premises on Monday (May 11, 2026).

National Technology Day is observed across India to commemorate the historic Pokhran Nuclear Tests of 1998, which marked a defining moment in India’s scientific and technological journey.

Mr. Venkatraman highlighted how indigenous nuclear technologies can significantly contribute to India’s vision of energy independence and environmental sustainability.

Later, P. Arulmozhivarman, Vice-Chancellor-VIT-A.P. University, said the day reminds us that India’s greatest strength lies in its scientific spirit, innovation ecosystem, and commitment to self-reliance.

Ramesh Srikonda, Director, School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, Vijnana Bharati A.P. president Kompella S. Sastry, and others were present.
