Adivasi Samkshema Parishad vice-president Vaba Yogi on Thursday asked the government to take stern action against a physical education teacher and her husband, who reportedly assaulted a tribal girl after her alleged involvement in a theft at Tribal Welfare School in Bandapalli of Meliyaputti mandal in Srikakulam district.

In a press release, he said that the teacher, Lavanya, crossed her limits and allowed her husband, Ramachandra Rao, to beat the girl despite the latter’s repeated requests and continuous crying. The association leaders Venkatesh, Khageswara Rao and others said that they would organise a bandh in Meliyaputti demanding the government to take action on the couple and others involved in the incident. They said that the issue was brought to the notice of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) and State government.
