The attempt by three doctors to save the life of Linu, who was injured in a road accident near Udayamperoor in Ernakulam on Sunday, went in vain as he succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Kochi on Tuesday.

The emergency surgical procedure carried out by Dr. Manoop B., Dr. Thomas Peter, and Dr. Dideeya Thomas on the road had drawn widespread attention and applause.

The three young doctors had performed the procedure in the middle of the road at night using ‘razor blade and straws’.

Though Linu was admitted to a private hospital in a critical condition, there was no significant improvement in his health. His death was confirmed by the hospital.

It is learnt that the body will be handed over to relatives after post-mortem at the Ernakulam General Hospital on Wednesday.

Dr. Manoop, cardiothoracic surgeon at the Kottayam Government Medical College Hospital, and Dr. Thomas Peter and Dr. Dideeya Thomas of Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Kadavanthra, Kochi, were travelling when they witnessed the accident. While two of the injured were responding, Linu was unconscious.

According to the doctors, Linu had sustained severe maxillofacial injury and was gasping for breath, following which the emergency surgery was conducted.

When contacted, the hospital authorities said the relatives of the deceased wanted his details to be kept under wraps.
