Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has fulfilled all pre-poll guarantees within four years of assuming power, even as the Opposition parties termed it as the most disappointing government in the State’s history.

“The Punjab government has started a new tradition in politics by completing all promises in four years whereas parties are not able to do so even in five years,” he said, addressing the media on the completion of four years of his government. “The key achievements included free electricity, daytime power for farmers, canal irrigation reaching 78% of fields, 65,000 government jobs and 5.5 lakh employment opportunities, along with expanded health care through Aam Aadmi Clinics and free treatment up to ₹10 lakh,” the CM said.

However, Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa accused the Chief Minister of “attempting to mislead people through exaggerated claims about the AAP’s performance”. “The reality is that the AAP government has delivered one of the most disappointing tenures Punjab has witnessed in recent times. The people can clearly see through the attempts at image-building. What they expect from a government is accountability, effective governance, and tangible results — all of which have been missing over the past four years,” he said.

Tall promises: BJP

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh said AAP came to power in Punjab on the basis of tall promises but the government has failed on every front. He said the promises of creating 25 lakh jobs, eliminating the problem of drugs within four months, and guaranteeing minimum support price on every crop have all turned out to be empty assurances.
