The A.P. Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bengaluru-based NGO, Sankalp India Foundation, on Tuesday to strengthen healthcare services for children suffering from Thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

The MoU was signed between foundation president Rajath Agarwal and A.P. Red Cross general secretary A.K. Parida, in the presence of A.P. Red Cross chairman Y.D. Rama Rao.

The MoU aims to establish a network of Thalassemia and sickle cell daycare centres across Andhra Pradesh. The initiative focuses on improving hemoglobinopathy care, enhancing early detection and prevention, and supporting long-term treatment and cure efforts, particularly for children from economically weaker sections.

The Red Cross members emphasised the urgent need for structured and accessible care facilities for Thalassemia and sickle cell patients, saying that this partnership would significantly strengthen medical support systems, blood availability, counselling services, and awareness programmes across the State.
