Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja on Tuesday (January 20, 2026) condemned the ‘indecent behaviour’ against women at Gogannamattam village in Razole constituency of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, and warned that such acts against women would not be tolerated.
In a statement, Ms. Sailaja said that the Mahila Commission had taken suo motu cognisance of the recent incident involving dancers during Sankranti celebrations. A video circulating on social media showed a man allegedly forcing women and minor girls to perform in an inappropriate manner on public stage. Reports indicated that the person made objectionable remarks and made indecent demands. The video triggered widespread outrage with concerns raised regarding the safety of minors and the exploitation of artists during festival events.
Ms. Sailaja said that the incident reflects the low opinion towards a woman in the society and said that an FIR had been registered against the accused. She said summons had been served to the accused to present himself before the Commission for an explanation.
Ms. Sailaja said the Women’s Commission was committed to the cause of women safety and protect their dignity.
