As many as 1,061 stolen and lost mobile phones worth ₹3.2 crore were recovered by the Cyberabad police within 45 days, marking the ninth phase of mobile recovery operations.

The phones were traced using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal and formally handed over to their owners during a ceremony held at the Cyberabad Police Commissioner’s Office on Thursday (October 16, 2025).

DCP Crimes A. Muthyam Reddy said the recovered devices included 240 from Madhapur, 188 from Balanagar, 195 from Medchal, 233 from Rajendranagar, and 205 from Shamshabad. He urged the public to promptly report missing or stolen phones through the CEIR portal or at the nearest police station, stressing that mobile phones often contain personal and financial data that make swift recovery vital.

He also reminded citizens to remain cautious of cyber frauds and avoid suspicious links, advising them to contact the national cybercrime helpline 1930 or report cases via cybercrime.gov.in.

Crimes ADCP K. Ram Kumar said that mobile thefts were on the rise and emphasised the importance of the CEIR system, which can block a stolen device using its IMEI number to prevent misuse. Once recovered, the device can be unblocked and used again.

Since 2023, the Cyberabad police have recovered 13,423 mobile phones, including the latest 1,061 through the CEIR portal with support from the CCS Cyberabad and IT CELL (CAT). Telangana Police continue to lead nationwide in mobile recoveries.

Several beneficiaries thanked the police for their swift response. An IT professional from Gachibowli, whose stolen phone was used in an attempted cyber fraud, said police froze his accounts in time and traced his device quickly. Another resident who lost his phone near a temple also lauded the prompt action of the police in recovering it.
