The R.T. Nagar police on Tuesday arrested an ambulance driver and his friend for allegedly assaulting a PU student with a knife at the college campus over a trivial row on Saturday.

The victim, a II PU student at a private college in R.T. Nagar, first block, got treatment at the hospital before filing a complaint with the police on Tuesday.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested the accused within 24 hours. The accused, identified as Prabhudev, an ambulance driver, and Ganesh, a kitchen staff in a hotel, have been booked for assault with dangerous weapons and under the Arms Act, the police said.

Probe revealed that the accused was a former student of the college and allegedly miffed about the victim talking to a girl in the college, with whom the accused was close. The accused dropped out of college and started working as an ambulance driver, the police said.

The duo has been remanded in judicial custody, and further investigations are on. The police verified the possible involvement of the girl and ruled that she was not aware of the incident.
