A group of students and teachers from Srinagar’s Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kothi Bagh, had a unique cultural experience with the little children of Government Fisheries Lower Primary School, Kadalundi Nagaram, on Wednesday.

After seeing the sea and the beach for the first time in their life, the Kashmiri girls expressed an overwhelming sense of wonder as they interacted with the children of the fisheries school.

As the school and its children celebrated the Chef Day on Wednesday, five days ahead of World Chefs Day, the Kothi Bagh girls treated the host children to a popular Kashmiri salad. The girls taught the little children the recipe and preparation of their favourite salad.

The cultural visit of the 10 Kothi Bagh school girls and three teachers was arranged by the Faizal and Shabana Foundation (FSF), which has adopted the Srinagar school and renovated it on the model of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School for Girls, Nadakavu.

The FSF is giving a world-class uplift to the Kothi Bagh school by spending ₹20 crore, and its first phase inauguration is set for October 27. The foundation had already transformed the Kadalundi Nagaram fisheries school onto a campus with state-of-the-art facilities by spending over ₹1 crore.

The fisheries children treated their Kashmiri guests to cultural events such as Oppana and Mapilapattu. The children’s mothers brought mouth watering Malabari dishes from home, giving the visitors a wow experience.

As it was the school’s chef day, the chefs from Tulah Wellness Sanctuary, Chelembra, joined the celebrations and shared a meal with the children and visitors.

The Kashmiri group also visited the Tulah Wellness Sanctuary and experienced wellness practices, sustainable landscaping and Tulah’s philosophy of holistic living.

Later they visited the Kadalundi-Vallikkunnu Community Reserve, the first community reserve in Kerala.

School heamistress Reena P., Vallikkunnu panchayat president Shylaja K., FSF’s fisheries school project manager Nimmy Theresa and project coordinator Anagha N.V. welcomed the visitors.
