Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to inaugurate the new office building of Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) on October 13. The building is the first major civil infrastructure project to be completed in Amaravati, marking a significant milestone in the State’s Greenfield capital development.
The state-of-the-art seven-storey structure, spread across a total built-up area of 28,562 square metres, stands as a model of efficient design and execution in the upcoming administrative core of Amaravati.
The ground floor covers 2,213.20 sq. m, while each of the upper floors ranges between 2,870 sq. m and 2,982 sq. m. The project includes a green belt area of 3,561.24 sq. m, open space reserve (OSR) of 4,046.86 sq. m, and open parking space of 5,503.73 sq. m, alongside other amenities covering 1,578.28 sq. m.
The project site was abuzz with activity on Saturday as hundreds of workers were giving the final touches such as painting, laying tiles in parking and open areas, landscaping, planting saplings, fixing electric and data cables, cleaning interiors, arranging office furniture, and removing construction debris.
The completion of the APCRDA headquarters is seen as a symbolic first step towards reviving Amaravati’s long-delayed capital city vision, which is expected to gain renewed momentum under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department’s Principal Secratary S. Suresh Kumar told The Hindu that this is going to be a major milestone in building Amaravati Capital City.
Recollecting the various unexpected hurdles and legacy issues in the construction of the capital, he said the government achieved a milestone by completing the APCRDA building.
Initially, the government planned to complete the capital city in four to five years, but it was delayed due to various reasons.
Explaining that even after restarting the halted works after 2024, there were many legacy issues, litigations, cost escalations, legal obligations to clear pending dues before floating tenders based on revised estimates, and many other hurdles, he said that the government had addressed all the issues.
The inauguration of the APCRDA building would give confidence to all stakeholders, including the government, the farmers who had parted with their land, and the people, he said.
The building will house the offices of all the Heads of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Department. It will have a centralised Command Control Centre, which will monitor the progress of every development project undertaken in the capital city of Amaravati.
This building is becoming a symbol for every other project, which are in progress here in Amaravati, he said.
Coordination with all the Heads of Departments of MA&UD will be easy, as all of them are going to be located at one place, the Principal Secratary added.
