Former Thiruvananthapuram Collector and Director of Public Relations M. Nandakumar died here on Tuesday night. He was 69.
He was under treatment at a private hospital for the past four months following a brain surgery.
Hailing from Ernakulam, he studied in Thiruvananthapuram. He did his graduation in Life Sciences and postgraduation in Journalism and also secured a law degree.
He began working as a sub-editor trainee but entered government service. He was conferred IAS in 1993. In 2011, he was appointed Thiruvananthapuram Collector.
He also served as Director of Collegiate Education, Kudumbashree Director, Civil Supplies Director, and Land Use Commissioner.
He was a known orator and writer, with interests in astrology and numerology.
He is survived by his wife, N.S. Sreelatha, and children Vishnu and Parvathy.
The body will be kept at the University Women’s Association Hall, Jawahar Nagar, from 8 a.m. on Wednesday for the public to pay their last respects. Cremation will be held at Santhikavadam, Thycaud, at 4.30 p.m.
