Kadapa District Collector Sridhar Cherukuri denied allegations of short supply of urea in the district and announced that 12,800 metric tonnes was available at various Rythu Seva Kendras (RSKs).

The advisory came in the wake of some farmers resorting to panic hoarding of urea to meet their future requirements, while some using it in excessive quantities aiming at higher yield. Advising the farmers to ensure judicious use of urea in their farms, he said that one or one-and-a-half bag of urea is enough for an acre of farm, as prescribed by farm scientists. He found farmers using two to three bags per acre, which is not only leading to shortage, but also in causing health hazards.

Mr. Sridhar also pointed to some farmers hoarding urea bags more than what’s required, thus creating an artificial scarcity. Depicting urea as a component that instils nitrogen into the soil, the Collector called upon the farmers to use the multiple forms of fertilizers available in the market in tune with their requirements. “We have supplied 1,300 metric tonnes of fertilizers during the last three days,” brushing aside the rumours of short supply.
