Lalitha PVS Institute of Medical Sciences organised a stroke awareness walk and public education programmes on Thursday to mark World Stroke Day, emphasising early detection and timely treatment.

The programme, conducted under the guidance of Dr. P. Vijaya, Senior Neurologist and Head of Neurosciences, included expert talks and code stroke training for healthcare personnel.

Around 200 members of the public participated in the awareness activities. Doctors explained the fast approach to identifying stroke symptoms, including balance problems, vision changes, facial drooping, arm weakness and speech difficulties.

Dr. Vijaya stressed controlling blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, and seeking immediate emergency care. Dr. U. Veeramma highlighted the 4.5-hour treatment window for eligible patients, while Dr. Usha Kiran explained endovascular thrombectomy.

Dr. N. Srinivasa Rao discussed neurosurgical interventions, and Dr. Ajay highlighted post-stroke depression.
