Cooperation Minister V. Gandhiraj has announced revised guidelines and loan limits for housing loans and mortgage loans offered by Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) and Urban Cooperative Credit Societies (UCCSs).

The maximum individual loan limit for UCCSs has been raised to ₹60 lakh for societies with deposits below ₹100 crore and ₹1 crore for those with deposits exceeding ₹100 crore.

The maximum repayment period for housing and mortgage loans offered by both UCCSs and UCBs has also been extended to 20 years to reduce the monthly repayment burden on borrowers.

For UCBs, the maximum individual housing loan limit is ₹60 lakh for banks with deposits below ₹100 crore and ₹1.40 crore for those with deposits exceeding ₹100 crore, in accordance with Reserve Bank of India guidelines.

The Cooperation Department found that some UCBs had been offering loans below the limits prescribed by the RBI, leading to variations between banks. It has instructed them to extend loans up to the applicable limits.

The department has directed UCBs and UCCSs to review and amend their loan policies and by-laws and obtain approval from the Regional Deputy Registrar.

Eligible members can approach their respective banks or societies with identity proof, address proof, income certificates, and land or property documents to apply for the loans, the Minister said.
