Two railway coaches parked at a yard near Rajanukunte railway station on the outskirts of Bengaluru were damaged in a fire that broke out on Tuesday around 10.30 a.m. No casualties were reported as the coaches were unoccupied at the time.

The fire quickly spread through the two coaches, which had been parked in a yard around 500 metres from the railway station for several days. The coaches were reportedly being used by the Railways for fire drills and were not on the railway tracks when the incident occurred.

After receiving information, the fire and emergency services personnel from Doddaballapur and Yelahanka rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 11.30 a.m.

Officials from the Bengaluru division of South Western Railway and Yeshwantpur railway police visited the spot and inspected the damaged coaches. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

The officials are investigating the case.

A police official said the area was surrounded by vegetation, and there were no CCTV cameras, making it difficult to establish how the fire started. “A team has been formed to investigate the incident,” the official said. Further investigation is under way to assess the extent of the damage.
