Senior BJP leader Sudha Yadav was named Karnataka’s next Governor on Monday by President Droupadi Murmu. She will be the second woman to hold the post in the State, after V.S. Rama Devi.

Karnataka was one of the six states to which gubernatorial appointments were announced on Monday. The incumbent ThaawarChand Gehlot had been Governor since July 21, 2021.

Ms. Yadav, who has served as BJP’s Parliamentary Board member, the highest decision-making body of the party, hails from Haryana. She had earlier served as MP representing Mahendragarh between 1999-2004. She had also served as a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes earlier.

Ms. Yadav holds a postgraduate degree in Chemistry and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. She is the wife of a Kargil martyr, Deputy Commandant Sukhbir Singh Yadav.

The first woman Governor Ms. Rama Devi served from 1999 to 2002.
